The Ardorfer Church is the church building of the Evangelical Lutheran congregation in Ardorf , City of Wittmund .

history

The Ardorfer Church originally belonged to the jurisdiction of the former Archdiocese of Bremen . The patronage rights lay with the Johanniterkommende Burmönken . The Reformation was introduced in Harlingerland around 1538/39. However, the villagers prevented the Ardorfer pastor Mamme Folkert from burning the church relics as well.

Building description

The Ardorfer Church is a mixed building from the 13th century. The lowest layer of the structure consists of granite masonry, which is completed in the upper part by brick . The church is closed by a hipped roof.

The original apse was unusually drawn in, but like the gable it was demolished in 1844. The north and south portals are walled up; only recently has the church been accessible again through the south portal. In the 16th century the church got its current west entrance.

The wall zone between the granite masonry and the roof structure is made of bricks. The pilaster strips worked into the masonry are particularly visible. The crescent arches above the small round arched windows are also an expression of the aesthetic architecture of that time. The free-standing bell tower with a tent roof was built in 1807. The community bell was cast as early as 1633.

Furnishing

The oldest piece of furniture is the baptismal font from the 13th century, restored in 1987 , which is made of brick and has old paintings. The ornate pulpit with a hexagonal sound cover from 1600 comes from the Ludgerikirche in northern Germany . The lectern dates from 1650. The organ was built by the Esenser organ builder Arnold Rohlfs in 1847 and restored in 2003 by Martin ter Haseborg . The instrument has ten registers on a manual and an attached pedal. Another special feature in the interior is the altarpiece with eight picture panels by the artist Hermann Buss from the north , acquired in January 1998 .

Church records

The parish registers have been preserved since 1749. There is also a local clan book .
