Damülser Valley; Klamm

The Argenbach , also known as the Argen , is a smaller tributary of the Bregenzer Ach in the Bregenzerwald in Vorarlberg . His valley is the Damüls valley .

Run and landscape

The Argenbach arises from Krumbach and Oberdamülserbach below Damüls . Oberdamülserbach and Argenbach form a Kerbtal , the Damülser Tal , which stretches in a west-east direction , between the Damüls Mountains and the Kanisfluh in the north and Glatthorn and Zitterklapfengruppe in the south. In its course, the Argenbach is deeply cut and largely left in its natural state. Towards the end of the valley, between the places Argenfall and Argen, it narrows to a gorge , called Argenfall or Argenschlucht , enters the Bregenzerach valley at Argenzipfel in the Au-Rehmener valley basin and then flows into Au after about 7 km .

The municipality of Damüls lies completely north of the brook, the south side is the municipality of Fontanella , Oberdamülserbach and Argenbach form the municipality boundary. The valley is open to tourists through the Faschina – Damüls – Mellau ski area .

Backwaters

The Damülsertal is characterized by wild, natural ravines and shows many small bodies of water.

Spring streams
  • Oberdamülserbach , also called Brägatzbach or Bregetzbach : The small stream comes from the north from the Oberdamülser Alpe at the foot of the Portlahorn , passes the flat saddle of Oberdamüls (in the Ladritschtobel ), and is about 4 km long. It flows through the village of Damüls.
  • Krumbach : Comes from the valley basin of the Ugaalpe at the Damülser Mittagsspitze . It rises below the Ragazer Blanken and is about 5 km long.

The two streams come from the ski area (Damüls – Ugaalpe) and the alpine region, but form a number of interesting moor and wetlands.

Tributaries
  • Laubenbach and Eventobelbach to the right of the Glatthorn
  • Laubenbach (Geißtobel) to the left of Gungern
  • Afintobelbach to the right of the Zafernhorn , Blasenke and Hochschere
  • Mitteltobelbach , Sacktobelbach and Ledertöbele to the left of the Klippern
  • Leuebach to the left of the Öberlealpe (between Klippern and Kanisfluh)

geology

While the upper course is characterized by the flysch zone and the softer formations of the Helveticum , the Argenbach breaks through a bank of Jurassic limestone in the lower course , which belongs to the Kanisfluh. This creates an extremely narrow, deeply cut gorge there.

traffic

The L 51 Laternser Straße Rankweil - Laterns - Furkajoch - Oberdamülser Sattel - Damüls - Au runs through the Damülsertal . In Damüls, the L 139 Faschina Straße branches off via the Faschinajoch into the Großwalsertal to Fontanella and Sonntag .
