classification
In the current Alpine Club Guide by Dieter Seibert from 2008, in the previous version by Walther Flaig from 1977 and in the international standardized orographic division of the Alps (SOIUSA) , the Damülser Mountains form one of the four, eleven and thirteen subgroups of the Bregenz Forest Mountains, respectively. In Flaig, the subgroup is called Damülser Berge and Kanisfluh , while in SOIUSA it is called Damülser Berge in the narrower sense , to distinguish it from the Damülser Mountains in the broader sense , which also include the adjacent Glatthorn group .

The mountain group structure for the Austrian cave directory according to Hubert Trimmel from 1968 divides the Damülser Berge into the numbers 1117 Kanisfluh and 1118 Damülser Mittagsspitz within the group 1110 Rheintal - Walgau - Bregenz Forest .
Location and boundaries
The Damüls Mountains are located in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg , between Mellau in the north and Damüls in the south. In addition to these two communities, Au (Vorarlberg) , Schnepfau and Dornbirn also have a share in this mountain range.
The boundaries of the Damüls mountains run clockwise along the line Bregenzer Ach - Argenbach - Bregetzbach - Unterdamülser Furka - Hüttabach - Ladritschbach - Portlabach - Portla Fürkele - Mellenbach . The Unterdamülser Furka connects the Damüls mountains with the Glatthorn group and the Portla Fürkele with the Freschen group .

Summits and saddles
Thanks to its striking appearance, the Kanisfluh has a special position within the Damüls Mountains. For the rest of the mountain group, the Alpine Club leader from 1977 uses the designation “Damülser Berge” (in the narrower sense), the SOIUSA “Mittagspitzkamm” and the mountain group classification for the Austrian cave directory “Damülser Mittagsspitz”.
The following table lists the named peaks and saddles from west to east.

geology
The Damülser Berge are located in the Helvetic Zone , which is pronounced in the Bregenzerwald and is of eastern Swiss character, and stretches north into the Allgäu . To the south is the flysch zone , in which the group in the southwest also has a share.
The layer sequence comprises from the north Seewerkalk (Sünser tip Ragatzer Blanken, Damülser Mittagspitz, Ragatzer Schrofen) which grobbankigen easily marly limestone of Drusberg formation (Schafbergbahn, Hochblanken, clippers), siliceous (mostly located below the Drusberg formation), Palfris formation , cement stone formation , quinter limestone (Kojenkopf, entire Kanisfluh), marl and clay marl of the Schilt formation , as well as Leimern marl ( ultra-helvetic , in the area between Ragazalpe and Ugaalpe). The flysch zone shows itself with Reiselsberg sandstone (Schwabbrünnenserie) in the peaks of Portlahorn, Portlakopf and Elsenkopf.
landscape
The ridge strikes mainly in a west-east direction, from Au in the east towards the Furkajoch . The mountains form beautiful, grassy slopes to the south, to the north they break off again and again in high crags (blanks) with a few waterfalls, in the east they break off in a wall over 1000 meters in altitude. They form plateaus and hollows (tubs) in between , around the Hauseralpe , on the Ulfernbach , around the Galtsuttisalpe , and the Kanisalpe, as well as slope and spring and some flat moors . Moors and small lakes can also be found in the valley tobels on the southern slopes, such as the Sünser See .
Development
The Damülserkamm is a ski area and is accessible with a number of lifts. The Damülser and Mellau mountain railways have also been accessible via the ridge since 2008 and form the Faschina – Damüls – Mellau ski area .
In addition, the area, and especially the untouched Kanisfluh, is also a delightful hiking area with numerous marked trails, such as the Damüls circular course . It also offers some more challenging tours (crossings, steep grass tours). Apart from the Alpengasthof Edelweiß (between Kanisfluh and Damülserkamm near Au, 1,492 m, private), accommodations are only located near the valley.
The group is also popular as a mountain bike terrain.
