The Sünserkopf or Sünser Kopf ( 2032  m above sea level ) is a mountain in the Bregenzerwald Mountains , which is located on the municipal boundary between Dornbirn , Mellau and Damüls . The blue lake is about 1000 m away, the Portlaalpe about 2600 m and the Furkajoch about 3.6 km. Walther Flaig called this mountain Hübscher Bühel in his Alpine Club Guide from 1977 .

location

The Sünserkopf is part of the Damüls Mountains group and a rather inconspicuous peak. It is completely overgrown with grass on the eastern, southern and western sides and there is no summit cross on it, just a granite surveying stone. On the northern side of the Mellental, the mountain drops steeply.

Adjacent peaks

In the south, around 1300 m away, is the Portlahorn (2010), in the west, around 800 m away, the Sünser Spitze (2062) and in the northeast, around 600 m as the crow flies, the Ragazer Blanken (2051).

hike

The closest hiking base is the Portlaalpe ( 1710  m above sea level, open only in summer) and the Freschenhaus ( 1846  m above sea level ). Other surrounding Alps (e.g. Sünser Alpe or Oberdamülser Alpe) are only cultivated in summer.

The ascent to the Sünserkopf is possible from several starting points, e.g. B. from Damüls, Oberdamüls or the Portlaalpe. The shortest route leads from the Portlalpe over the Portlafürkle towards Sünser Joch .

The path over the Portlaalpe (near Furkajoch ) to the mountain top can be mastered in about an hour (322 meters in altitude ).

Coming from Damüls over the seven hills, the Sünserjoch up to the Sünserkopf, the way back can be chosen over the Alpe Oberdamüls (1667 m). This circular hike takes about 5 to 6 hours in total (about 620 meters in altitude).
