Arida ( Japanese 有 田 市 , - shi ) is a city in Wakayama Prefecture in Japan .

Arida is south of Wakayama and north of Tanabe .

history

On September 19, 1954, the county town of Minoshima ( 箕 島 町 , - chō ) and the villages of Itoga ( 糸 我 村 , - mura ), Yasuda ( 保 田村 , -mura ) and Miyahara ( 宮 原 村 , -mura ) of the Arida district joined to the municipality of Arida ( 有 田 町 , -chō ) together. On May 1, 1956, Arida was elevated to an independent city ( shi ).

Attractions

One of the sights is the Jōmyō-ji temple south of the Arida River.
