Armin is a male given name from Indo-European. The name day is June 2nd.

Origin and meaning of the name

  • germanic ermin / irmin means big, mighty, heroic
  • persian armin / armeen ( persian :آرمین), means "protector". In the epic Schahnama ("Book of Kings") by Ferdousi (940-1020) this is the name of the son of a king.

A theory that emerged in the 18th century says that Armin goes back to Arminius .

Name bearer

According to tradition, St. Armin died with his mother for his Christian convictions. The time and place of the martyrdom are unknown, but an early veneration in Egypt and Abyssinia ( Ethiopia ) can be assumed. This would indicate that Armin lived in Egypt and died there. According to the ecumenical lexicon of saints, however, Armin means coming from Armenia.
