Armin Leopold Ernst Bruno Heinrich Willa August Prinz zur Lippe (born August 18, 1924 in Detmold ; † August 20, 2015 there ) was a German entrepreneur and head of the Lippe family from 1949 until his death .

Armin Prinz zur Lippe was the fourth son of the last ruling Prince Leopold IV. Zur Lippe (1871-1949) and his second wife Anna, Princess of Ysenburg and Büdingen (1886-1980), daughter of Prince Bruno of Ysenburg and Büdingen and his wife Countess Berta zu Castell-Rüdenhausen. On November 12, 1918, Prince Leopold IV had to renounce the throne. The princely residential palace in Detmold remained in the family ownership. The family still lives in this castle today. Armin was related to the King of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander van Oranje-Nassau (* 1967), through his cousin Bernhard zur Lippe-Biesterfeld (1911–2004) .

After the death of his father in 1949, the older half-brother, Ernst Leopold Prinz zur Lippe (1902–1987) from his father's first marriage to Princess Bertha von Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld (1874–1919), was passed over as head of the Lippe family. Instead, Armin was appointed as his successor in 1949. According to his father's wish, he took the name Fürst zur Lippe in 1949 . When the competent authority wanted to enter the new name in his driver's license, the Ministry of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia intervened. A name determination decision at the end of 1950 stipulated that the name Prinz zur Lippe should also apply to the head of the House of Lippe .

On March 27, 1953, Armin Prinz zur Lippe married the biologist Traute Becker (born February 16, 1925 in Hänigsen ), daughter of Gustav Becker and Charlotte Meyer, in Göttingen . From this marriage a son emerged: Stephan Prinz zur Lippe (* 1959), married to Maria Gräfin zu Solms-Laubach (* 1968); the couple have three sons and two daughters.

Life

After high school, military service in the air force and imprisonment, Armin zur Lippe completed a natural science degree at the University of Göttingen . In 1954 he was at Richard Harder with a plant-physiological work for Dr. rer. nat. PhD .

Armin Prinz zur Lippe administered the inheritance of the Princely House (Fürstliche-Lippische Zentralverwaltung GbR) in close cooperation with his son Stephan Prinz zur Lippe. He took an active part in public life in his region and held a large number of honorary positions. This included the honorary chairmanship of the board of the art association "Lippische Gesellschaft für Kunst", which he co-founded. Since the establishment of the Foundation for the National Theater Detmold (1970) also belonged to the association's board, and was also one of the curators of the Lippe Church operated in Detmold dormitory "The Burse " in which members unterschiedlichster religions of the Technical University of East Westphalia-Lippe , Lemgo , and the Detmold University of Music live in an international community. In 1999, the Federal President awarded Prinz zur Lippe the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class.

He and his wife joined the Association of Conscientious Objectors in 1959 .
