The Laaber-Verlag in Lilienthal in Bremen is a 1977 by Henning Müller-Buscher established book and music publishing , where previously about one thousand book titles were laid. Important acquisitions were the Arno-Volk-Verlag in 1980 and the Frits Knuf, Buren publishing house in the early 1990s.

Laaber-Verlag has published in all relevant areas of music and musicology since 1977 . In addition to a large number of individual publications, he has published numerous book series such as B. the New Manual of Musicology (13 volumes plus partial volumes), the Manual of Musical Genres (17 volumes plus partial volumes), Great Composers and their Time (approx. 40 volumes), the Encyclopedia of Church Music (6 volumes plus partial volumes ) or multi-volume composers' manuals on Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Georg Friedrich Händel and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

In the past few years, Laaber-Verlag has also initiated a much-noticed program focus with music encyclopedias, in which comprehensive reference works on composers (e.g. Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Haydn , and Mozart) and instruments (e.g. organ , Piano , violin , flute , voice, choir and orchestra) and other subjects (e.g. opera , film music, church music, dance and systematic musicology ) can be realized.

Another important focus of the program is the series Masterworks of Music in Facsimile , in which the most important works by well-known composers from Bach to Schönberg are facsimile. Scientific, multilingual introductions explain the work, its origins and the biographical background.

Several scientific periodicals are published by Laaber-Verlag, including the magazine Musiktheorie . Since it was founded, the publishing house has worked closely with universities and research institutes, including the German Historical Institute in Rome and the Research Institute for Music Theater Thurnau at the University of Bayreuth . The publishing house also publishes the book series Kompendien Musik on behalf of the Gesellschaft für Musikforschung .

Several paperback series were brought into being, especially for the educational sector, for example the series Basics of Music in approx. 16 volumes, genres of music in approx. 14 volumes and epochs of music in 7 volumes.

Most of the major musicologists of the 20th century published fundamental publications at Laaber-Verlag, including Carl Dahlhaus , Hermann Danuser , Ludwig Finscher , Peter Gülke , Hans-Joachim Hinrichsen , Silke Leopold , Siegfried Mauser , Helga de la Motte-Haber , and Siegbert Rampe , Albrecht Riethmüller , Christian Martin Schmidt , Elisabeth Schmierer .
