Arron Monk

Arron Monk (born April 15, 1990 in Andover , United Kingdom ) is an English darts player who takes part in events of the Professional Darts Corporation .

Life

Arron Monk is the son of the former dart player Colin Monk .

Arron Monk won the New Kids on the Oche event in 2008 - Nuts TV's last darts tournament on television.

Monk became known at the 2010 UK Open with a group of young darts players including Joe Cullen , William O'Connor and Reece Robinson. He defeated Nick Fullwell in the second round while being cheered on by his father. In the third round, however, he was defeated by the formally strong Denis Ovens , who reached the semi-finals.

In 2011 he won the PDC World Youth Championship against Michael van Gerwen .

Monk also took part in the PDC Pro Tour. Monk qualified for his first PDC World Championship in 2012 by defeating Joe Cullen in the PDPA qualifier. He was unlucky with the draw for the first round when he played against the winner of the Players Championship Final of the past few weeks, Kevin Painter , and was beaten 3-1. In April he won a place at the Austrian Darts Open in Vienna by defeating Paul Barham and Daniel Day in the British qualifiers. He played Raymond van Barneveld in the first round and lost 6-4. He beat Painter 9-8 at the UK Open Monk before losing 9-9 to Paul Nicholson in the last 32 . He also qualified for the third European Darts Open with wins over Jack Hill and Chris Mason , but lost to Steve Brown 6-2 in the first round in Düsseldorf. In October Monk reached the semi-finals of a PDC event at the 13th Players Championships of the year for the first time. He beat greats like Dennis Priestley , Roland Scholten and Mark Webster , all of whom have won important titles in the past, before losing 6-1 to Michael van Gerwen . Monk then beat John Part, Vincent van der Voort and Andy Hamilton to advance to the quarter-finals of the fifth European Tour event of the year, the Dutch Darts Masters. Monk faced Paul Nicholson and lost 6-1 with an average of just 69.39. Monk qualified for the Grand Slam of Darts 2012 by taking first place in the Order of Merit of the PDC Unicorn Youth Tour. He won two of his three group games to finish second on the table and qualify for the first time for the last 16 of a major tournament. He played against Dean Winstanley and had to admit defeat 5:10.

Monk reached the 35th place in the ProTour Order of Merit 2012 at his second world championship and was fifth out of sixteen places awarded to non-qualified players. He lost 3-0 to Peter Wright in the first round. Monk was ranked 45th in the world after the event. At the UK Masters he defeated Ian White and Mark Walsh both 6: 4 before he missed a match dart in the third round against Robert Thornton and lost 5: 6. He was beaten 6-4 by Ricky Evans in the semi-finals of the U21 World Cup, and lost 5-2 to Gaz Cousins ​​in the second round of the UK Open. Overall, he reached the round of 16 four times a year, but never progressed.

Monk lost 3-0 to Justin Pipe in the first round of the 2014 World Cup. He lost 5-4 to Karl Merchant in the second round of the UK Open. Monk had a disappointing year as he couldn't get past the last 32 of a tournament. The only European Tour event he could qualify for was the Austrian Darts Open and there he was beaten 6: 1 by Stephen Bunting in the first round . Monk received a ban on reckless throwing of darts from the DRA and therefore only played in tournaments again in September 2015. He only won two games in the nine tournaments in which he participated. It dropped to 145 in the world by the end of the year and failed to regain his place on the tour via Q School.

Monk qualified for the 2016 UK Open, beating Stewart Rattray 6-3 and Robert Thornton 6-4 before losing to Phil Taylor 5-9 in round three . He knocked out Michael Barnard in the semifinals of the 13th Challenge Tour event, but got even better at the 14th event when he reached the final, where he lost 5-1 to Richie Burnett .
