Arson Anthem is an American hardcore punk - Supergroup from New Orleans , Louisiana , which was founded in the year of 2006.

history

After Mike Williams by Hurricane Katrina had lost all his possessions, he moved into the guest apartment of Phil Anselmo . As a result, both got to know each other better and soon rehearsed the first songs with the addition of Hank Williams III and Collin Yeo . Hank Williams III and Anselmo already knew each other through their previous joint work in the Superjoint ritual, which had already been dissolved at that time . They then founded Arson Anthem in 2006. The artists were also previously active in projects such as Pantera , Down , Assjack and EyeHateGod . About House Core Records , the label that Anselmo had founded, the self-titled EP of the band, that was both the first release of the label appeared. The sound carrier contained eight songs and was released in 2008. Mike Williams took over the vocals, Yeo the bass, Hank Williams III the drums and Anselmo the electric guitar. In October 2010 the debut album Insecurity Notoriety followed on the same label. The sound carrier was re-released in 2011 via Hammerheart Records , with the EP from 2008 included as a bonus.

style

According to the band biography on musicemissions.com , the group has oriented itself towards bands such as Negative Approach , Poison Idea , Hellhammer , Discharge and Void . According to Allmusic's Chris True , Anselmo formed the band to play pure hardcore punk. However, he also heard a clear sludge influence . According to Dirk Konz from metalnews.de , Insecurity Notoriety has little to do with sludge. Much more is dedicated to classic hardcore punk of the 1980s, whereby the songs, as usual for the genre, would remain under the two-minute mark. The songs are so aggressive that they border on grindcore . In addition, some songs can also be assigned to the Noisecore and the Crustcore . With the screaming vocals a comparison to the band Dead Fucking Last is obvious. In addition, one cannot deny the similarities to Superjoint Ritual and EyeHateGod, since one hears the songs self-hatred, nihilism , dissonance , misanthropy , criticism of the system, anguish of the soul and black painting, which is otherwise only typical in rough crustbands. Konz recommended the album to fans of Black Flag , Unsane , Poison Idea, Today Is the Day , Germs , Discharge, as well as Crustcore and / or D-Beat . According to Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmann from Rock Hard , the band is dedicated to punk , crustcore, thrash metal and hardcore punk and named bands like Cryptic Slaughter , Negative Approach, Discharge, Dayglo Abortions and old Poison Idea as a comparison . Keith Carman of exclaim.ca classified the music on Insecurity Notoriety as hardcore punk and described the music as a mixture of Discharge's fine intentions, Black Flag's belligerent boastfulness and the charged vitality of Bad Brains .
