Arthur Allgeier

Arthur Allgeier (born October 23, 1882 in Wehr , † July 4, 1952 in Ebersteinburg (Baden); full name: Franz Arthur Allgeier ) was a German Catholic theologian ( Old Testament scholar ).

Life

The son of a tax collector attended high schools in Sasbach and Freiburg. He then studied Catholic theology at the University of Freiburg and was ordained a priest in 1906. Then he devoted himself to studying classical philology and oriental studies . In 1910 he was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD , 1914 at the University of Berlin as Dr. phil. In 1915 he completed his habilitation at the University of Freiburg. There he was full professor of the Old Testament from 1919 until his retirement in 1951 .

Allgeier was Secretary General of the Görres Society from 1929 to 1941 . In 1937 he was appointed papal house prelate and in 1941 consultor of the Pontifical Biblical Commission .

Scientifically, he was mainly active in the field of the Latin psalm tradition .
