Arthur Joseph Serratelli (born April 18, 1944 in Newark ) is an American clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Paterson .

Life

The Rector of the Pontifical North America College , Francis Frederick Reh , ordained him a priest on December 20, 1968 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Newark and titular bishop of Enera on July 3, 2000 . The Archbishop of Newark, Theodore Edgar McCarrick , donated him episcopal ordination on September 8 of that year ; Co- consecrators were Michael Angelo Saltarelli , Bishop of Wilmington , and Paul Gregory Bootkoski , Auxiliary Bishop of Newark. As a motto he chose Vivere Christ Est .

He was named bishop of Paterson on June 1, 2004, and inducted into the office on July 6 of that year. Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on February 2, 2011 as secretary of the "Vox Clara" committee .

On October 28, 2016, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments .

On April 15, 2020, Pope Francis accepted Arthur Joseph Serratelli's resignation due to reasons of age.
