Vox Clara Committee

The Committee Vox Clara ( English Committee "Vox clara" ; from Latin vox clara , clear voice) is a body assigned to the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments . It is responsible for the translation of Latin liturgy texts into English. The institution was established on July 19, 2001 on the initiative of the "International Commission for the English Language in the Liturgy" and was initially to provide advice until 2008 with the revision of the missal . It was then converted into a permanent institution for the congregation.

The Presidium consists of President George Cardinal Pell ( Sydney ), First Deputy Bishop Thomas James Olmsted ( Phoenix ), Second Deputy Oswald Cardinal Gracias ( Bombay ), Secretary Bishop Arthur Joseph Serratelli ( Paterson ) and Treasurer Francis Cardinal George OMI ( Chicago ). Other members are: Archbishop (emeritus) Alfred Clifton Hughes ( New Orleans ), Archbishop Michael Neary ( Tuam ), Archbishop Terrence Thomas Prendergast SJ ( Ottawa ), John Cardinal Tong Hon (Hong Kong) and Auxiliary Bishop David Christopher McGough ( Birmingham ). Additional advisors can be appointed.

During the translation phase of the liturgical books, the committee worked closely with the English-language bishops' conferences . It usually met once a year for two or three days. The last meeting took place from July 24-26, 2011 in Rome . Since then, the committee has effectively ceased its work.
