The Arthur Kaspar is a tugboat with icebreaking properties that was in service from 1955 to 1995 for the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration . After extensive repairs and renovations, the ship has been registered in Vienna since 2008 .
history
The ship was commissioned by the Waterways and Shipping Directorate Southwest and the Rhein-Main-Donau AG as hull number 1396 from the shipyard Christof Ruthof in Mainz-Kastel built and delivered on 29 November 1955th The Arthur Kaspar was then initially stationed at the Water and Shipping Authority Würzburg and relocated after its dissolution in the late 1970s to the fairway and Shipping Authority Schweinfurt .
The Arthur Kaspar was used on the Main and in the construction of the Main-Danube Canal as a tugboat, icebreaker and tour ship . After an engine failure , the ship was decommissioned in 1995 and sold as a floating club home to Motorschifffahrt-Donaufreunde Straubing .
Two members of the Viennese Association of Friends of Historic Ships discovered the run-down ship in Straubing in 2005 and recognized its technical and historical value. Due to the relatively early decommissioning, the Arthur Kaspar had never been modernized and was almost in the delivery condition from 1955. It was acquired by a community of owners and transferred to the Korneuburg Museum Harbor in September 2005 . There the Arthur Kaspar was comprehensively repaired and renovated under the direction of the Friends of Historic Ships . The six-cylinder - marine diesel engine from the engine works Mannheim was again operational in November 2007 and in December 2008 the ship received his Austrian license. After that, the Arthur Kaspar was used by the club as a traditional ship.
In the summer of 2010, the captain Franz Scheriau acquired the Arthur Kaspar . He has stationed the ship in Freudenau harbor and offers it for excursions .
