Arye Sharuz Shalicar ( Hebrew אריה שרוז שליקר; born August 13, 1977 in Göttingen ) is a German-Persian- Israeli political scientist , publicist, writer and government employee. The former graffiti artist and hip-hop musician served as a press officer in the Israel Defense Forces since 2009 and most recently held the rank of major . Life

Shalicar is the son of Iranian Jews who fled to Germany from anti-Semitism in their homeland in the 1970s . He grew up secularly in Berlin without knowing about his Jewish family background. When this changed and as a teenager he moved with his family from the Berlin district of Spandau to the district of Wedding with its high proportion of Muslim residents, he became the target of anti-Semitic hatred from a universally accepted youth. To counteract this, he was allied with the predominantly Kurdish- Lebanese gang colony Boys, was a member of the Turkish gang The Black Panthers (TBP) and the ethnically mixed Berlin Street Gangsters (BSG).

As a graffiti sprayer, Shalicar was initially active as a co-founder of the Berlin group ASP. This later became part of the Berlin Crime formation, which also included numerous hip-hop musicians who would later gain some fame; including gynecologist , Manny Marc and MC Bogy . As one of the Berlin Crime founding members, Shalicar himself was an active rapper under the pseudonym BossARO. He was featured with guest contributions on the albums BC and Der Untergrundkönig by Frauenarzt, Dobermann Demotape Part 1 by Manny Marc and Berlin remains underground , a joint album by Frauenarzt and Manny Marc. Shalicar initially planned to release an album, but this was not realized. He later justified this with the fact that he had reluctantly written texts and wanted to move the center of his life to Israel. As a former member of the ASP group, Shalicar had been known to the future rapper MC Basstard since the early 1990s . He conveyed this to Berlin Crime, with which, according to Basstards, Shalicar is partly responsible for having become a rapper.

After graduating from high school in 1997, Shalicar left the graffiti scene and did his basic military service as a paramedic . He then began studying political science , Jewish studies and Islam at the Free University of Berlin . In 2001 he emigrated to Israel to “lead a life of belonging, a life without crooked looks, a life as a Jew”. In Israel he continued his political science studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem , which he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2006. He then obtained a Masters in European Studies with distinction in 2009 . He had been with the Jewish Agency since 2006 and also worked for the ARD Middle East studio in Tel Aviv . Shalicar began his military service in the Israel Defense Forces in 2001 with a paratrooper support unit . From October 2009 to early 2017 he was one of the four official spokesmen for the Israeli army. He has worked in the government since 2017, based in the Prime Minister's office in Jerusalem. There he is head of the international relations department.

Shalicar is married with two children and lives near Jerusalem .
