Asan ( Kor. 아산 ) is a city in the South Korean province of Chungcheongnam-do .
The city borders the Sudogwon metropolitan area in the north . The current administrative area of the city was established in 1995 when Onyang-si and Asan-gun were merged. Onyang is now part of the city as -dong and is known for its thermal springs . Mayor is Bok Ki-wang ( 복기왕 ).
The port of Pyeongtaek is located near the city . Hyundai Motor and Samsung Electronics have set up factories in Asan .
The second campus of Hoseo University is in Asan.
The Hyeonchungsa Shrine , built in 1706 to commemorate Admiral Yi Sun-sin , contains the war diary, letter folder and copies of drafts of the Admiral's war report.
The Onyang Folklore Museum ( 온양 민속 박물관 ) is also well known .
