The Asbeke is a left tributary of the Kinsbeke in the Herford district in the northeast of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

geography

The water has a total length of 2.4 km. The catchment area lies in the heart of the Ravensberg hill country west of the Werre . The Asbeke rises in Enger in the district of Oldinghausen . It appears for the first time as an outflow from the fish ponds of the Sattelmeier -Hof Ebmeyer and flows into the Kinsbeke in Herford - Eickum on Oldinghauser Straße . In maps, the Kinsbeke is sometimes referred to as the Asbeke for a while after the confluence. The Kinsbeke in turn flows into the Westphalian Aa .

The water flows through the districts Enger - Oldinghausen and Herford - Eickum on its way from the source to the mouth . The brook changes only once between Herford and Enger. Tributaries are short side streams and field drainages.

history

The Asbeke was used as a mill stream in earlier centuries. The former watermill of Hof Bartling (Low German: Balker) was dismantled and is now in Bad Oeynhausen on the edge of the spa gardens as part of a museum project. The former Bartling farm is now called Quest .

environment

Directly behind its source, the stream flows through the Balker Busch - a piece of forest interspersed with wet meadows. The entire length of the Asbeke belongs to the Asbeketal nature reserve or, in the lower reaches of the Asbeke-Kinzbachtal , the greater part of the brook lies in the Engeraner area. On its way to the estuary, it flows through Ebmeyer's ponds, as well as Bartlings' and Gieseler's ponds, both of which threaten to silt up.
