Ascanio mayons

Ascanio Mayone (* around 1570 in Naples , Kingdom of Naples ; † March 9, 1627 ibid) was a Neapolitan composer, organist and harpist.

Life

Ascanio Mayone may have been a pupil of Jean de Macque and initially worked as the second organist at the Basilica della Santissima Annunziata Maggiore from 1593 . In 1601 Scipione Cerreto called him one of the most excellent instrumentalists on the organ and the double harp. From 1621 he was the maestro di cappella there and remained associated with this church throughout his life. From 1602 he was second organist, alongside Giovanni Maria Trabaci , at the Real Cappella , the chapel of the Spanish viceroys of Naples . In 1614 he becomes first organist as Trabaci's successor. Travels took him to Spain and Portugal.

Mayone composed madrigals and published two volumes of harpsichord music , the Capricci per sonar (1603, 1609), the ricercare , canzones , toccatas and partitas , for which he chose the collective term capriccio .
