Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines is a computer game that was released exclusively for Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld console and is a sequel to Assassin's Creed . As in the previous games, you play the Assassin Altaïr and have the task of killing the new Grand Master of the Templars , Armand Bouchart, and his followers.

action

The action starts about a month after the events of the first part. You start as Altaïr, who, together with his brothers, infiltrates a Templar castle to find out why they left Acre and moved on to Cyprus . Altaïr duels with the Templar Maria and takes her prisoner. He then goes to Limassol to meet Alexander.

After Altaïr finds information about Frederick the Red, who trains Templars, he goes to the fortress of Kantara to kill him. After the successful act he goes to the fortress of Buffavento to murder Moloch "the cop" so that Limassol can be freed. However, according to Markos, Bouchart is in contact with a Kyrenia- based oracle called "the witch". This provides him with information on an ongoing basis. Altaïr then goes to the fortress of St. Hilarion , where he kills the oracle.

But Limassol is still not exempt. Shalim and Shahar rule after the death of their father Moloch, and the corruption is much greater than before. Altaïr manages to kill several of her followers, only to finally bring down the twins himself.

In the penultimate section, Altaïr finally kills several corrupt members of Bouchart's who control Limassol. One of them incited the people beforehand against Altaïr, who now want to kill him because they think he is a traitor. But Altaïr can calm her down with a splinter of Eden and Maria unceremoniously kills the last corrupt follower. Altaïr and Maria enter the Templars archive to kill Armand Bouchart. The assassin fights the Templars who are staying there, while Maria duels with Bouchart. Maria loses the fight and is knocked unconscious by Bouchart. Bouchart explains to Altaïr that the valuable artifacts (including a shard of Eden) were not brought to Cyprus, but on the contrary, from there. He then duels with Bochart and then manages to kill him. Altaïr and Maria flee from the archive and start a relationship, because Altaïr saved her life several times and she can no longer and does not want to return to the Templars.

Gameplay

Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines has a similar gameplay to Assassin's Creed. Nevertheless, there are minor changes to the controls, which are due to the lack of specific buttons and buttons on the Sony PSP (no separate camera stick, missing action buttons). This is one of the reasons why the "Eagle Vision" known from the series has been completely removed. Due to the technical limits of the PSP compared to NextGen consoles, both the game world and the AI had to be compromised . As a result, the opponents in and outside of the fight react less intelligently than in the usual parts of the series. Likewise, the crowds are significantly smaller. Within the game this is explained by the fact that there is constant uncertainty within the population due to the new regime. The combat system in Bloodlines has also been revised: If an opponent is thrown to the ground, unlike in other parts, he can be eliminated with just one press of a button.

The stealth aspect in Bloodlines has also been downgraded to a lower level due to the limited control options of the PSP. The passive immersion is completely absent. Only active immersion (key X) prevents the guards from being hostile towards the player. Climbing on buildings has been simplified and accelerated.

To increase long-term motivation, there are so-called “Templar coins” in the game, which are divided into bronze, silver and gold. With the help of these coins the player can, for example, enlarge his health bar or increase the damage level of his weapons. These coins can be earned through various side tasks such as freeing civilians, completing special tasks for the resistance movement, delivering letters and intercepting couriers.

Bloodlines is set in Cyprus, mainly in the port cities of Limassol and Girne , which are similar to those of the first part. Due to the setting, any kind of cavalry had to be removed. Altaïr can again synchronize the city via high vantage points in order to display important locations and various side missions on the map. Furthermore, the animations of assassinations have been changed and the "edge assassination", in which the victim is pulled down from an edge, has been added.

The cutscenes present themselves as pre-played dialogues, while the simultaneous movements and gestures of the NPCs are purely random. Unique gestures are only used in confrontations with the assassination targets, such as Moloch and the Dark Oracle. The game also supports subtitles.

Due to the decreased stealth aspects, the story missions and assassinations also had to be simplified. The "investigations" known from part 1 were exchanged for the mission design from part 2, in which one does one task after the other and slowly collects information from allies or enemies.

The game has a success system that rewards the player for certain achievements, similar to the Xbox 360 Achievement and PS3 Trophy system. This is done, for example, after killing a certain number of soldiers in a certain order, or for collecting all Templar coins. To compensate for the missing stealing, the player has the opportunity to collect throwing knives from dead guards.
