Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood ( dt .: creed of Assassins : Brotherhood ) is a 2010 published video game from Ubisoft . It is the direct successor to Assassin's Creed II and the third edition of the Assassin's Creed series. It continues the story of Ezio Auditore da Firenze at the time of the Renaissance that began in the second part, as well as the story of Desmond Miles spanning the entire series in the present. The game was released on November 18, 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 . The PC version followed on March 17, 2011.

action

At the beginning of the game, Desmond, Rebecca, Lucy and Shaun arrive at the villa in Monteriggioni after escaping from their first hiding place . There they look for a solution to the supposed end of the world in the memories of Desmond's ancestor Ezio Auditore. They are researching the Edensplitter , a magical artifact in the shape of an apple, which indicates the location of the seven assassin temples that were depicted on a mural of the villa.

Ezio's first memory that Desmond relives starts in Monteriggioni, where he is attacked by Cesare Borgia's papal army. In the battle, Ezio hands the Edensplitter over to his uncle Mario Auditore, in order to then devote himself to the hopeless defense of Monteriggioni so that the inhabitants have time to get to safety. When the Borgia break through the gate, Mario is killed by Cesare and the Borgia take possession of the apple; Ezio himself is badly wounded. He wants to find the Borgia to win back the apple, but on his journey he passes out from his injuries. He wakes up in Rome , which is ruled by the Borgia. Ezio meets Niccolò Machiavelli there , who gives him and the assassins a hiding place. However, in order to get to Cesare, Ezio needed the support of the Roman population.

First of all, Ezio wants to win over the underground movements, especially the mercenaries, courtesans and thieves, to his cause. The thieves are led by La Volpe , the mercenaries by Bartolomeo d'Alviano; both are also assassins. Ezio can finally win over the courtesans and his sister and mother now run their brothel. However, the actions of the assassins are repeatedly disrupted by the Borgia, and it quickly becomes clear that there must be a traitor. La Volpe suspects Machiavelli, and this suspicion grows in the course of the plot. Eventually, Volpe sets out to find and kill Machiavelli. At the last second, however, Ezio can track down the real traitor and just barely stop La Volpe from killing Machiavelli.

Shortly afterwards, Machiavelli calls a meeting of the assassins, attended by Ezio, the assassin recruits, La Volpe and Ezio's sister Claudia. There Ezio is named "il Mentore", the leader of the brotherhood. Claudia is also accepted into the brotherhood.

In the further course of the story, Ezio has to eliminate various followers of Cesare in order to reduce the influence of the Borgia. In addition, Leonardo da Vinci has some war machines, such as B. a machine gun or a tank , of which the Borgia built prototypes. These are also destroyed by Ezio and the blueprints destroyed. After all, Ezio weakened the Borgia enough to be able to find the Apple of Eden in the Vatican . Then he has to fight against Cesare's guards with his help.

A few years later, Ezio finds himself at the Battle of Viana when Cesare Borgia and his army attack the Spanish city. Ezio confronts Cesare, but Cesare escapes in the turmoil. Ezio follows him and finally finds him on the city wall, where he succeeds in a final fight to incapacitate his opponent. Then he pushes Cesare off the wall, which - probably - dies.

Ezio returns to Rome and hides the apple under the Colosseum so that it cannot cause any further damage. In the present, however, after this realization, Desmond and the assassins immediately travel to the Colosseum and enter the hiding place. During his intrusion, Desmond hears the voice of Juno over and over again, giving him clues to the truth . When he and the others reach the apple, Desmond takes it in his hands, causing his DNA to communicate with the Edensplitter. Desmond is forced through him to kill Lucy.

Game principle and technology

Single player

As in the first and second part, the main task for the player is to complete battles, climb buildings and carry out certain assassinations. There are some playful innovations available for this; u. a. the protagonist has a crossbow and a parachute , which Leonardo da Vinci receives for him after completing a number of assignments.

A new game concept is the recruitment of more assassins among the citizens of Rome, who can be called into battles and sent on missions to other European cities; however, these missions are not playable, only a result is displayed.

Furthermore, towers of the Borgia can be found everywhere in Rome, through which the surrounding area is dominated. The player must destroy these towers in order to open shops in the surrounding area and to reduce the influence of the Borgia.

Multiplayer mode

In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood there is a multiplayer mode for the first time. Different maps and modes are available. There are a total of eight game modes, plus 21 characters, some of which appear in single player mode. Players receive experience points and gradually learn up to twelve skills, which turns a group of NPCs into duplicates of the player.

Game modes

Searched
In this mode, six to eight players each have to find and kill a different specific Templar without being recognized and caught themselves beforehand. If a player is hunted, he can use the chase breakers everywhere - paths that can only be walked once, and in this way escape. The player with the most points from successful assassinations and escapes wins.
Headhunting
In this mode, the six to eight players are divided into two teams. They have to try to hide or chase the other team in two rounds of five minutes each. The roles are swapped after the first round. The assassins must penetrate the target area and find and eliminate a victim, the others must prevent this. Since the NPCs are not particularly varied, it can also lead to fatal mix-ups, which makes the work of the Templars difficult.
alliance
In this mode, three teams of two players each play. The goal is to eliminate the other team before you get eliminated by the third team. The mode consists of two phases of four minutes each. In the first half, one team has to eliminate the other team that another team has to eliminate, and in the second half the goals are exchanged.
escort
In this mode you have to hunt down or protect VIPs. The six to eight players are divided into two teams. There are two rounds of four minutes each. One of the teams takes on the role of hunter, the other the role of protector. The hunters have to eliminate the VIPs and can only stun the protectors. The protectors must escort the VIPs on their way and eliminate the hunters. The protectors score every time a VIP reaches a checkpoint.
