Assassin's Creed Odyssey is an action-adventure - computer game , which by Ubisoft Quebec has been developed and Ubisoft is laid. It is the eleventh part of the main series by Assassin's Creed and the successor to the 2017 Assassin's Creed Origins . It was released in October 2018 for the PlayStation 4 , Microsoft Windows and Xbox One platforms . The publication for Google Stadia followed in November 2019 .

action

The thematic framework of the game is an alternate version of the Peloponnesian War . The player has the option of choosing between a male and female protagonist; the unselected character becomes one of the main antagonists after the game starts. You start the game as a mercenary and grandson of the Spartan king Leonidas I and inherit his broken spear, which is forged into a weapon that gives the player special abilities in combat. As a mercenary you fight either for Athens or the Attic League or for Sparta or the Peloponnesian League . The starting area is the island of Kephallenia .

Game principle and technology

Assassin's Creed Odyssey puts more emphasis on RPG elements than previous games in the series. The game includes dialogue options, branching quests, and multiple endings. The player is able to choose the gender of the main character and take on the role of Alexios or Kassandra . There is also the possibility of developing romantic relationships with non-playable characters of both sexes, regardless of the gender of the chosen character. The game has a notoriety system in which mercenaries chase after the player if they commit crimes such as killing or stealing from non-playable characters.

The game uses a skill tree system that allows the player to unlock new skills. The three skill trees include “Hunter”, who enhances the player's archery, “Warrior”, who focuses on combat, and “Assassin”, who focuses on stealth. This replaces the system used in Origins which gave the player a range of passive abilities.

The hitbox combat system introduced in Origins has been expanded to give the player access to four different special abilities when the skill bar is sufficiently full. These abilities include a shower of arrows and a powerful kick to throw opponents off balance, and are similar to the "overpower" mechanic introduced in Origins , which allows a powerful finishing move in combat. The game also features an equipment system where each piece of armor the player wears has different ratings and offers a number of benefits. These can be individually equipped and upgraded.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey also features the return of naval battles, with the player having access to Hellenistic-era warships to explore the Aegean Sea . The conflict between Athens and Sparta is represented by a "war system" that allows players to accept contracts from mercenaries and take part in various large-scale battles against hostile factions. The war system can change the influence of a faction on a region, but this has no influence on history.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey was created using the game engine Anvil .

DLCs

Some DLCs have been announced for Assassin's Creed Odyssey , which are included in the Season Pass , but can also be purchased individually.

It all started with the story expansion The Legacy of the First Blade , which was published in three parts. The content is about the appearance of the first assassins. Just like in the main game, there is a group here that operates in secret and tries to take control of the Greek world. The goal here, too, is to counter this and stop their plans.

The second DLC also appears in three separate parts and is entitled The Fate of Atlantis . In each episode, the player visits one of the mythological realms of Greece and meets heroes, gods and numerous new challenges. The first episode is called The Elysian Fields and was released on April 23, 2019. Here the player ends up in the Elysion . This is the Greek paradise with Persephone as ruler, who has to be overthrown. The second episode is called Die Hadesqualen . Released on June 4, 2019, this takes you to the Greek underworld, which was named after its ruler Hades . While the Elysion seems beautiful, the underworld is desolate. The player is looking for a way to escape Hades and outsmart him. In the final episode of the DLC called The Judgment of Atlantis , the player meets Poseidon in the fabled realm of Atlantis . Published on July 16, 2019, this part provides answers to numerous questions; especially the Isu take up a large part here.

Also included in the Season Pass are Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, each in a remaster edition.
