Asweiler is a part of the Saarland municipality of Freisen in the St. Wendel district . Asweiler was an independent municipality until the end of 1973.
history
Asweiler was first mentioned in a guarantee deed from 1411. From 1933 to 1949 Asweiler was merged with the neighboring Eitzweiler to form the Asweiler-Eitzweiler community.
From 1817 to 1937 Asweiler belonged to the Oldenburg principality of Birkenfeld , then to 1947 to the district of Birkenfeld and since then to the Saarland.
As part of the regional and administrative reform in Saarland , the previously independent municipality of Asweiler was assigned to the municipality of Freisen on January 1, 1974.
