Aten (also: Atén ) is a town in the northern part of the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Aten is the central place of the canton Aten in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Apolo in the province of Franz Tamayo (formerly "Caupolicán"). The village is located at an altitude of 1455 m , 170 kilometers as the crow flies north of the Bolivian seat of government La Paz and 110 kilometers northeast of Lake Titicaca .

Aten is located between the eastern Andean chain of the Cordillera Real and the suburban chain of the Serranía del Beu .
The region has a very balanced climate in terms of temperature (see Apolo climate diagram); the average temperature is around 20 ° C, the monthly average temperatures fluctuate between 21 ° C from October to March and almost 19 ° C in June and July. The long-term average annual precipitation is around 1350 mm, the short dry season in June and July with monthly precipitation below 35 mm contrasts with an extended humidity period of up to 200 mm in December and January.
Transport network
Apolo is located 451 kilometers by road north of La Paz, the capital of the department of the same name.
From La Paz, the asphalted highway Ruta 2 leads 70 kilometers northwest to Huarina , from there the asphalted Ruta 16 branches off to the north, which reaches Escoma after 98 kilometers and then leads as an unpaved road for another 250 kilometers via Charazani to Apolo . In Apolo, the route 26 branches off to the south and leads via Aten and Mapiri to Caranavi .
