Attitude Adjustment is an American crossover band from San Francisco , California that has been active intermittently since 1983. In its early days, the group briefly operated under the name Homicidal Youth .

history

The origin of the band goes back to the duo consisting of Chris Kontos and Eric McIntire (then still Smith), who jammed together in the summer of 1983 . The first appearance followed along with Fang and The Burning Witches. A short time later, the singer Nick Colgien joined and the group was called Homicidal Youth. The band could then be heard at Maximum Rock'n Roll on the radio station KPFA . Then came bassist Rick Strahl, who had just moved to the USA from Germany . Strahl had previously met the musicians at The Record Store in Walnut Creek . In 1984 the band consisted of the bass player Strahl, the drummer Kontos, the guitarist McIntire and the singer Kevin Reed. The band got their name in the winter of 1984 from a friend Mike Kennet, who was insulted by a drunken stranger while skating that he would get an "Attitude Adjustment" if he didn't disappear. Performances followed for the following months before Reed was sent on a state camping trip, whereupon singer Andy "Airborne" Andersen and guitarist Chris Scaparro joined them. In early 1985 the demo Dead Serious was recorded. The recordings for this had taken place in the Peter Miller Studios with the sound engineer Eric Kauschen . As a producer was Doug Piercy operates. In the summer of that year, shortly before the group began recording for Pusmort Records , the band split from Eric McIntire. In the fall of 1986 the label released their debut album American Paranoia , but the group had already split up a few days before the release.

The following year the band reappeared. It now consisted of Kontos, Reed, McIntire and bassist Keith Medeiros. Then it went on a short tour along the west coast of the United States . In 1988 the EP No More Mr. Nice Guy was recorded with Ray Vegas on bass. On the 1991 album Out of Hand you can hear Sean Sutton as the new guitarist, while Vegas had switched to electric guitar and Eric McIntire from electric guitar to bass. The publication was followed by appearances with Discharge , Danzig , Testament and Poison Idea . However, various things such as drugs, fights, musical and personal differences and friends of the members who were against the project caused the band to break up in late 1991.

In 2007 the group came together again with a different line-up. It was composed of the guitarist Yapple Rueles and the bassist Greg Orr, along with Reed, Kontos and McIntire. Then it went on tour through Canada , the USA and Europe . The album No Way Back was released in 2011 by Taang! Records . In autumn 2012 they went on tour with Napalm Death and Municipal Waste . In their career, the group has so far performed with Dirty Rotten Imbeciles , Suicidal Tendencies , Circle Jerks , Rich Kids on LSD and NOFX, among others .

style

According to GlassPipeMurder from punknews.org , The Collection is a snotty mix of Thrash Metal and Punk . The songs would contain juvenile lyrics, while the songs were full of half-baked ideas. The first part of the compilation, the American Paranoia forms, is full of primitive aggression and youthfulness. No More Mr. Nice Guy is "heavier", which is mainly caused by the new singer Kevin Reed, who growls deeper , but the quality of the lyrics is still not satisfactory. The last part, Out of Hand, goes in a more metallic direction and uses a second electric guitar. You also use the roar typical of Death Metal . In addition, strong Thrash Metal borrowings can be heard in some songs, and the group has improved lyrically. Ollie Fröhlich from Ox-Fanzine wrote in his review of No Way Back that it was pure and simple hardcore punk that was full of energy and aggressive. The guitar riffs are somewhere between hardcore punk and metal, the lyrics are socially critical and angrily shouted .
