Audi hybrid models

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The hybrid models from Audi have been given the model designation "e" since 2019. Between 2014 and 2019, like the all-electric models, they were named "e-tron".

history

In 1989 Audi presented the (full) hybrid vehicle Audi 100 duo . It had a gasoline engine to drive the front axle and an electric motor for the rear axle, which is where the name duo came from. Some copies were used as a small test fleet in Ingolstadt in taxi operation. Based on the findings of the prototype, the Audi 100 duo C4 was presented in 1991 , another (full) hybrid, this time with recuperation. As with the predecessor, there was no series production here.

In the Audi A4 B5 series , the third generation of the Audi duo, which was essentially redesigned, was presented in 1996. It was officially available as a production vehicle in 1997 (before the first Toyota Prius). The Audi A4 avant duo was a completely new concept with a 21 kW electric motor on the five-speed gearbox. For the first time, the electronics regulated fully automatically, depending on the load and speed, between pure electric drive, combined drive (electric motor and TDI) and pure combustion engine. The lead battery could also be charged via a power cable. This car was the first series-produced plug-in hybrid from Audi in the modern sense.

In 2005, Audi presented the Q7 hybrid as a test vehicle. This was the first time that the drive concept was used that later went into large-scale production in the Volkswagen Group: the electric motor with an integrated separating clutch was located between the combustion engine and the transmission. In 2012 the Audi Q5 hybrid, the Audi A6 hybrid and the A8 hybrid appeared as series models with full hybrid technology.

In 2014, Audi presented the A3 Sportback e-tron, its first plug-in hybrid model since the Audi A4 avant duo. It was followed by several models in the larger vehicle categories from 2016.
