August Erdmann (born January 22, 1862 in Iserlohn ; † October 8, 1938 in Cologne ) was a social democratic politician and author.

Life

After graduating from high school in Iserlohn , Erdmann studied dentistry in Bonn , Berlin and Leipzig . He received his doctorate in Bonn in 1885. Until the beginning of the 1890s, Erdmann practiced as a dentist in Iserlohn.

He then worked as an author and editor for the social democratic press. Between 1896 and 1906 he was an editor at the Rheinische Zeitung in Cologne. Thereafter Erdmann was a permanent employee of the "Social Democratic Party Correspondence" from 1906 to 1908. H. the party's news agency . He was then a writer based in Cologne and later in Düsseldorf . Between 1912 and 1918 he was a member of the Reichstag for the constituency of Dortmund - Hörde .

In 1917 Erdmann joined the USPD . During the November Revolution he was chairman of the workers 'and soldiers' council in Düsseldorf. Between 1918 and 1920 he was editor of the USPD newspaper Westdeutsches Wochenblatt . In 1920 Erdmann returned to the SPD and was briefly district administrator in the Hagen-Schwelm district in the same year .

In addition to articles in newspapers and magazines, Erdmann published several writings. From a social democratic point of view, he dealt with the Center Party and the Christian trade unions .
