August Hanz (born April 3, 1925 in Hinterkirchen ; † February 6, 2008 in Meudt-Dahlen (Westerwald) ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school, Hanz, who was a Roman Catholic , began commercial training, which he had to interrupt, however, as he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service in 1942. He then did military service and took part in World War II as a soldier . At the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the French, from which he was released in 1948.

After returning from captivity, Hanz continued his training, which he completed in 1948 with the examination of a commercial assistant. He then worked in wholesale until 1953. From 1957 to 1972 he was state representative of the Working Group Democratic Circles for Rhineland-Palatinate , an organization for public relations. He then worked as a consultant at the Rhineland-Palatinate state representative in Bonn . Hanz lived in Meudt-Dahlen until his death.

Political party

Hanz was one of the founders of the Junge Union in the Montabaur district , joined the CDU in 1950 and was managing director of the party in Montabaur from 1953 to 1957. From 1980 to 1984 he was chairman of the Christian Democrats in the Westerwaldkreis , then their honorary chairman .

MP

From 1952 to 1969 Hanz was a member of the district council of the Oberwesterwaldkreis and chairman of the CDU parliamentary group there. In 1956 he was elected to the council of the municipality of Meudt . From October 11, 1957, when he replaced Paul Kalinowski , until the resignation on October 12, 1965, he was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament and has been chairman of the petitions committee since 1959. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1965 to 1972 and again from 1976 to 1987. In parliament he represented the constituency of Montabaur.

Honors

Hanz was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit First Class and the Konrad Adenauer plaque.
