August Rudolf von Knobelsdorff

August Rudolf von Knobelsdorff (born April 25, 1727 in Kunow in the Sorau district ; † September 26, 1794 on stones in the Breslau district ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen infantry regiment .

Life

origin

He came from the first noble family von Knobelsdorff and was the son of Johann Friedrich von Knobelsdorff (* 1693, † June 27, 1760 in Berlin), Prussian chief forest master and heir to Kunow, Bobersberg and Kuckedel and his wife Wilhelmine Charlotte, born von Kalkreuth from the house Ogersitz (born March 23, 1705 in Ogersitz; † March 29, 1761 in Berlin). His brother Kurd Gottlob (1735–1807) also became a Prussian general, his brother Alexander even field marshal .

Military career

Knobelsdorff became a page with King Friedrich II in 1741. In 1745 he accompanied the king in the Second Silesian War . On March 10, 1746, he was transferred to the "von Schwerin" infantry regiment as a second lieutenant . On August 19, 1756 he became a prime lieutenant there . During the Seven Years' War he was on August 10, 1758 staff captain and on July 22, 1763 captain and company commander . As such, Knobelsdorff took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On December 31, 1783 he was promoted to major and on February 1, 1784 was appointed battalion commander. On September 29, 1787 he received the order Pour le Mérite at the Revue . Two years later on July 23, 1789 he was appointed regimental commander. On October 18, 1790 he became lieutenant colonel and on February 3, 1793 colonel . He received his resignation and promotion to major general on September 26, 1793 . He died unmarried on September 28, 1793 on stones.
