Sackenheim began his football career in 1916 at Duisburger SpV , where the offensive player then went hunting for goals with the "Red Blouses" until 1927. With the game club, which was anchored in the upper middle class, he took part in the finals of the German football championship for four years in a row from 1924 to 1927 . Three times - in 1924 , 1925 , 1927 - as a West German master. The most successful of the DSV 1924/25: After successes against Alemannia Berlin (2: 1) and Altona 93 with attacking conductor Adolf Jäger (2: 0, both goals from Sackenheim), the West German champions only failed in the semi-finals on May 24th against the 1. FC Nürnberg with 0: 3. Overall, Sackenheim, who mostly storms on the half left or on the left wing, has played six finals with three goals for DSV alongside Hans Gruber and brother Peter . For the 1927/28 season he moved to Guts Muts Dresden in Saxony.

In the LIBERO of the IFFHS from 1994, Sackenheim is still listed in the competition of the Federal Cup 1927/28 in the team of West Germany, which in the semifinals after three legendary games (4: 4 a.s., 2: 2 a. 1: 2 a.d.) failed to make it into the final because of northern Germany. Sackenheim was one of the goalscorers in the 4: 4 (2 goals) and also brought the West 1: 0 in the lead in the 20th minute in Altona in the second replay in the 20th minute.

He played for the Dresden "Lilien" until 1932 in Central Germany in the Gau Ostsachsen . In his first season with Guts Muts, 1927/28 , he won the runner- up on the side of Rudolf Leip and Martin Reissmann behind the Dresdner SC. For two more years, 1930 and 1931, Sackenheim reached the runner-up with his teammates, but it was not enough to win the title. Hermann Flick had also come to Guts Muts in 1931 from TuS Duisburg 48/99 . Sackenheim moved to Dresdner SC in 1932 , where he promptly celebrated the championship in 1932/33 and thus also made it to the final round of the German championship. From 1933/34 he played with the DSC in the Gauliga Sachsen , where he won the championship in the debut round . For the DSC he came to two missions for the German football championship: On May 7, 1933 in a 1: 2 home defeat after extra time against Arminia Hannover and on April 29, 1934 in a 3: 1 in Leipzig against Borussia Fulda, where he was left connector next to center forward Helmut Schön ran up. Twice it was enough for the runner-up in the Gauliga Sachsen in 1935 and 1936 .

After the Second World War , Sackenheim became a coach. Among other things, he worked at SG Striesen in Dresden.

National team

As an active member of Guts Muts Dresden, Sackenheim could not win any championships, but he was appointed to the national team during this time. On October 20, 1929 Sackenheim made his debut in the German national team with Flick and Fritz Szepan . In the 4-0 win against Finland in Altona , he contributed the last two goals. He played his second international game on May 4, 1930 in Zurich against Switzerland in a 5-0 win. At the end of the 1930/31 season he came to his third and fourth international game on a trip to the north: on June 17 in Stockholm against Sweden (0-0) and on June 21 in Oslo against Norway (2-2). In Oslo, the German attack began with Josef Bergmaier , Johannes Sobek , Johannes Ludwig , Werner Widmayer and Sackenheim. He couldn't get another hit.

Sackenheim has also played in the federal cup for the associations of West Germany and Central Germany. With the West selection, he was even in the final against South Germany on July 4, 1926, but the South won clearly 7-2. The last selection game he played as a player from Dresdner SC with the Gau selection of Saxony on July 2, 1933 in Leipzig against Westphalia (1: 1 n. V.).
