August Stimpfl (born March 2, 1924 in Imst ; † May 21, 2010 ibid) was an Austrian academic painter .

life and work

August Stimpfl attended the arts and crafts school in Innsbruck until 1941. From 1942 to 1945 he served in the war in Russia , the Caucasus and Norway . From 1948 to 1951 he studied with Robin Christian Andersen and Herbert Boeckl at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts .

In 1951 he married Johanna Praxmarer and the couple had two daughters.

From 1965 to 1970 Stimpfl dealt with work of a technoid character using a computer-based working method. Afterwards he dealt again with the human body in the creation of images, especially with women, since the 1970s he has been drawing almost exclusively female nudes. In 1980 he went to New York to study with Reiner Schiestl .

His acrylic paintings have been exhibited in numerous Central European cities, including Vienna, Basel, Munich, Stuttgart and Zurich. His other techniques included smaller drawings as well as etchings and monotypes . One focus of his work was art in architecture , where he often worked with the architect Norbert Heltschl , who also came from Imst .

Along with Max Weiler and Paul Flora, Stimpfl is one of the most important Tyrolean artists after the Second World War .
