August Vogel (sculptor)
August Vogel (born July 28, 1859 in Flensburg , † November 10, 1932 in Berlin ) was a German sculptor and medalist .
His studio was in Berlin at Reichstagplatz 3.
For example, he created candelabra and decorative plastic on the Berlin Reichstag building , the figurative decorations on the facade and portal for the Wertheim department store by Alfred Messel on Leipziger Platz , jewelry on the Charlottenburg town hall and two fountains in Bochum town hall . For the architect Bruno Schmitz he made reliefs for the Kaiser Wilhelm monument at the Deutsches Eck in Koblenz and for the Kaiserin Augusta monument (Koblenz) .
At the turn of the century, he created the two monumental marble statues of “Justice” and “Grace” for Hamburg City Hall , which are placed at the entrance to the Senate enclosure. In 1908 he adorned the new tower portal of the main church Sankt Michaelis (Hamburg), which was rebuilt after the fire in 1906, with a huge bronze sculpture of the Archangel Michael fighting with Satan.
From 1914 until his death in 1932, Vogel was a member of the Prussian Academy of the Arts , Section for the Fine Arts.
August Vogel died in Berlin in 1932 at the age of 73. He was buried in the Heerstraße cemetery in today's Berlin-Westend district (grave location 4-A-6-1). The grave was cleared after 2005.

- 1900 Figure decorations at Villa Staudt Tiergartenstrasse (with Wilhelm Widemann and Karl Ludwig Manzel , destroyed)
- 1902 fire department memorial in Berlin-Kreuzberg (destroyed)
- 1905 fountain for the sanatoriums in Berlin-Buch
- 1909 bronze relief for the tomb of Simon Blad with a depiction of the deceased in the central cemetery in Friedrichsfelde
- 1914 Sandstone fountain on the Museumplatz in Hamburg-Harburg, foundation of the Thörl company, badly damaged in the Second World War
- Relief for the fallen soldiers of the First World War in the St. Margareta Church in Dortmund-Eichlinghofen
