Augusta Constantia by Cosel

Augusta Constantia Countess of Friesen , b. Countess von Cosel (* February 24, 1708 ; † February 2, 1728 ) was the first daughter of the Saxon Elector Friedrich August I , also called Augustus the Strong , with his mistress Anna Constantia Countess von Cosel and wife of Heinrich Friedrich Graf von Friesen , a later Electorate General of the Infantry and Diplomat.

Life

Augusta Constantia was born as the first daughter of August the Strong with his mistress Anna Constantia von Cosel . After her mother fell out of favor with the Elector of Saxony in 1713, she and her younger sister Friederike Alexandrine were initially taken to Gut Depenau in what is now Schleswig-Holstein , where she grew up with her grandmother Anna Margarethe von Brockdorff for the next few years .

From 1721, Cosel's children were raised under the care of their uncle Woldemar von Löwendal , electoral Saxon court marshal and at that time also cabinet owners and his wife Benedicta Margareta .

At the age of 17, Augusta Constantia was married in 1725 to Heinrich Friedrich Graf von Friesen , 27 years her senior , who was then master of the Electorate of Saxony , later general of the infantry and diplomat. As befits his status, the Saxon elector had a three-week wedding organized at Pillnitz Castle . The wedding ceremony was performed by the Electorate Court preacher Bernhard Walther Marperger in the presence of August the Strong on June 3, 1725. A copy of the wedding sermon he held later found its way into the Beyernaumburg estate archive , the holdings of which are now kept at the Wernigerode location of the Saxony-Anhalt state archive.

In the following years Augusta Constantia gave birth to two sons. At the beginning of 1728 she fell ill with smallpox , which she succumbed to shortly before her twentieth birthday. Her grave is in the crypt of the Schönfeld Church near Dresden under the choir. Several members of the von Friesen family were buried here.

The son August Heinrich von Friesen (1727–1755) emerged from the marriage with von Friesen .
