Heinrich Friedrich von Friesen

Heinrich Friedrich Graf von Friesen (born August 26, 1681 in Holland , † December 8, 1739 in Cette ) was an Electorate General of the infantry and diplomat.

Life

He came from the old noble family von Friesen and was the son of Count Julius Heinrich von Friesen (* June 17, 1657 - August 28, 1706) and Amalia Catharina von Dohna (* November 12, 1658 - December 18, 1707). His sister Charlotte Johanna Maximiliana was married to the minister Adolph Magnus von Hoym .

After his Grand Tour through France and England , he went into Russian military service . He fought in the Great Northern War in the Battle of Pultava and in the Fourth Russian Turkish War on the Prut . Around 1712 he joined the Saxon service as a colonel . In 1713 he became chamberlain and in the Pomeranian campaign of 1715/1716 he became major general . In 1716 he took action against insurgents in Poland , but with such severity that the king had to recall him. He also had to deal with theField Marshal Count Jacob Heinrich von Flemming quarreled. So he went to court. In 1719 he was appointed chief falconer and in 1727 chief chamberlain with the character of cabinet minister. In 1731 he was still general of the infantry, in 1734 he became governor of Dresden and actually retired from the military, but with the fall of Minister Sulkowski in 1738 he became commander of the life guards on foot . From 1726 until his death he was the owner of his aunt Johanna Margaretha Baroness von Schellendorff, who inherited the royal estate of Königsbrück with the Cosel manor .

He died on a trip to Montpellier in Cette on December 8, 1739.

He was married to Augusta Constantia von Cosel (* February 24, 1708; † February 2, 1728). She was an illegitimate daughter of Friedrich August I of Saxony with Constantia von Cosel . From the marriage, among others, the son August Heinrich (1727–1755) emerged.
