Augustin Palme (* 21st November 1808 in Rokytnice Iser ; † 18th October 1897 in Munich ) was a from Bohemia originating history painter .

Life

Augustin Palme came from a farming family. Since his artistic talent was recognized early on and he was striving for a corresponding profession, at the age of twelve he started an apprenticeship with a porcelain painter in Gebhardsdorf in Silesia and then with a master in Altenburg . After working in Coburg, he succeeded in studying at the Dresden Art Academy . On June 22, 1831, he enrolled in painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 1836 wealthy patrons made it possible for him to study in Italy. After returning to Munich he was employed by Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld on the decoration of the ballrooms of the Munich residence , for which he independently created the paintings "Charlemagne on the train against the Saxons" and "The Reichstag in Regensburg". In his own studio, in which he later employed several employees, he created numerous religious paintings and frescoes. Palme was a member of the Munich Association for Christian Art, founded in 1860 .
