The Aurach is a year-round flowing water of the 2nd and 3rd order in the Lower Franconian district of Haßberge in northern Bavaria . It is a left 9.5 km long, north-northeast and left tributary of the Nassach .

The 9.5 km long Aurach arises north of Eichelsdorf from the confluence of two source streams . These arise from karst springs on the southern flank of the Haßberge in the Rottensteiner Forest. From there it flows largely in a southerly direction, past the southeastern edge of the city of Hofheim , crosses under the B 303 to the northwestern edge of Ostheim . There the river swings in a south-westerly direction and flows from the left into the Nassach, a tributary of the Main , on the northern outskirts of Rügheim .

The sources are in the Haßberge landscape protection area, the further course of the river is in the NSG Geißleraue and Aurachwiesen near Ostheim of the Natura 2000 project.

Catchment area

It covers 24.9 square kilometers, most of which in the open corridor of the natural environment Southern grave field are. Only in an arc from the north to the south-east is the forest of the Middle Haßberge, in the area of ​​the eastern watershed towards the Baunach .
