Auramine O is a dye from the group of diphenylmethine dyes , which is used in auramine-rhodamine dyeing and for dyeing paper, textiles and leather. It is the hydrochloride of the auramine base.

Presentation and extraction

Auramine can be obtained by reacting Michler's base [ 4,4'-bis (dimethylaminodiphenyl) methane ] with urea , amidosulfonic acid , sulfur and ammonia at 175 ° C. Another process is the condensation of N , N -dimethylaniline with formaldehyde and subsequent reaction with sulfur, ammonia and ammonium chloride .
