The Ausonia was a passenger ship operated by the Italian shipping company Adriatica di Navigazione SpA , Venice .

history

The first 20 years

The ship was on August 5, 1956 order of Adriatica di Navigazione SpA at the shipyard Cantieri Riuniti dell'Adriatico in Monfalcone (Italy) laid down on and passed in September 1957th The maiden voyage began on September 23, 1957 and ran from Trieste via Alexandria to Beirut , a route that was subsequently operated as a fixed route.

The first renovation

From 1978 to 1979 the ship was converted into a cruise ship at the Italian shipyard Arsenal Triestino in San Marco . This increased the passenger capacity to 690 people. Following 1979, the ship was registered with the Italia Crociere Internazional and chartered by Chandris . The Grimaldi-SIOSA (Ausonia Crociere) bought the ship as early as 1983 .

The second modification

In 1984 rebuilding work and changes to the stern were carried out in a shipyard in La Spezia . This increased the passenger capacity to 750. After a renovation in 1986 at Fincantieri in Palermo , various sales, charters and flag changes followed.

Change of ownership and new names

On May 5, 1998, Ausoniamar Navigation (Louis Cruise Lines) , Limassol , Cyprus, bought the ship in order to use it in the Mediterranean , and from April 1999 First Choice chartered the ship.

In 2002 the ship was registered with Louis Cruise Lines , and then in May 2006 it was registered with Iona Maritime Co. Ltd , Piraeus , Greece. This was accompanied by a renaming in Ivory ; another renaming to The Ausonia followed on December 5, 2006. The ship was now sailing under the flag of Panama .

In April 2007 the ship was renamed again. The name was now Aegan Two . In January 2008 it was renamed back to Ivory . In June 2009, the ship was flagged to the Marshall Islands .

The end

Due to new SOLAS regulations in 2010, u. a. new fire regulations, the ship suffered the same fate as other classics: On 13 January 2010 was for US $ 2 million to a Indian Scrapper sold and for the crossing to the shipbreaking yards at Alang in Winner 5 renamed. For the final demolition, it was beached there on March 3, 2010 .
