Austin Anthony Vetter (born September 13, 1967 in Linton , Emmons County , North Dakota ) is an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Helena .

Life

Austin Vetter studied from 1986 to 1989 at the Cardinal Muench Seminary in Fargo and then until 1993 as a seminarian at the Pontifical North America College at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome. On June 29, 1993 he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Bismarck through Bishop John Francis Kinney .

After his work he was active in pastoral care, first as a chaplain at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Bismarck. In addition, from 1999 to 2002 he was Episcopal Vicar for the Permanent Diaconate and from 2008 to 2012 he was responsible for continuing education for the clergy in the Bismarck diocese. From 2012 to 2018 he was spiritual at the Pontifical North America College in Rome. On his return to the United States, he became rector of the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Bismarck.

On October 8, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Helena. He was ordained episcopal by the Archbishop of Portland, Oregon , Alexander King Sample , on November 20 of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Bismarck, David Kagan , and the Bishop of Metuchen , James F. Checchio .
