This article describes the women's doubles at the 1978 Australian Open . The defending champions were Evonne Cawley / Helen Cawley and Mona Guerrant / Kerry Reid . Since the final was canceled due to rain in December 1977, both pairings were declared the winner.

The final contested Betsy Nagelsen and Renáta Tomanová against Naoko Satō and Pam Whytcross that Nagelsen and Tomanová won in straight sets.
