The A4 in the direction of Aachen before the Gremberg junction |
The Köln-Gremberg motorway junction (abbreviation: AK Köln-Gremberg ; short form: Kreuz Köln-Gremberg ) is a motorway junction in North Rhine-Westphalia , which is located in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region . This is where the federal motorway 4 ( Aachen - Eisenach - Görlitz ) ( Europastraße 40 ) and the short federal motorway 559 , which runs from the motorway triangle Porz to Cologne-Deutz , cross.
geography
The cross is in the area of the city of Cologne , next to the Cologne-Humboldt / Gremberg district ( Kalk district ). Immediately south of the cross is the Gremberghoven gravel pit lake. It is located about 7 km south of Cologne city center and about 25 km north of Bonn . It is also located on the southern section of the Cologne motorway ring .
The Köln-Gremberg motorway junction is number 14 on the A4 and number 1 on the A 559.
history
The Gremberg Cross was originally built as a full clover leaf. At this time, the federal highway 59 and the federal highway 4 crossed at the Gremberg junction. To relieve it, a new motorway section was opened in 1982, which connects the Heumarer Dreieck directly to the A 59. In the course of the construction work, the Porz motorway triangle was also built as a junction. The old section of the A 59 from the Porz triangle to the Gremberg junction became the A 559.
The node was established in 1971 as a junction called Köln-Deutz.
Design
The motorway junction originally had the shape of an adapted clover leaf. In the course of the direct connection of the A 59 to the Heumarer Dreieck, the eastern direct ramp from the A 559 to the A 4 became superfluous and closed and dismantled in the 2000s. Today the cross has the shape of an incomplete shamrock.
State of development
The A4 has been expanded to six lanes in this area. There are four lanes on the A 559. All ramps are single lane.
