Life

Axel Kronenberg was a pioneer (1960) engineer and general staff officer in the army and in 1996 as a colonel i. G. retired. In his last employment he worked at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg . Before that he was u. a. used in Rengsdorf , Höxter , Wedel , Munich , Heidelberg , Minden , Hanover , Heerlen , Cologne and Bonn .

Axel Kronenberg frequently gives lectures on historical topics both in Lamspringe and Bad Gandersheim and works as a city guide. So he kept z. B. on November 3, 2009 a lecture on the occasion of the inauguration of the new "Altarmensa" in the Sankt Georgskirche in Bad Gandersheim. In 2003, he also led a group of English Benedictine abbots and monks through the Gandersheim collegiate church and the former Clus monastery.

The Prime Minister of Lower Saxony has awarded Axel Kronenberg the Cross of Merit on the ribbon of the Lower Saxony Order of Merit . On November 1, 2018, the district administrator of the Hildesheim district, Olaf Levonen, presented the award to Axel Kronenberg at a ceremony in the refectory of the Lamspring monastery.

Restoration of the frescoes by Alfred Ehrhardt in the crypt of the Lamspringe monastery church

During research, Axel Kronenberg found out that the artistic wall paintings had been whitewashed by the National Socialists in 1938 because they were considered 'degenerate'. With this discovery he confronted the monastery chamber and made contact with the artist's widow and son. The Alfred Ehrhard Foundation, whose son is the chairman of the board, invested a six-figure sum to have the wall and ceiling paintings restored. Between 2006 and 2010, two restorers uncovered six of 14 original paintings. They were inaugurated in early October 2011.

Restoration of a baptismal angel in Graste church

During research, Axel Kronenberg discovered Graste's baptismal angel in an archive in Saxony-Anhalt. It is thanks to his persistence that the monastery chamber of Hanover campaigned for the return to Graste and took over part of the renovation costs. The remaining money came from EU funds and sponsors that Axel Kronenberg was able to win. On March 5, 2012, the baptismal angel was inaugurated with a festive service in which Axel Kronenberg spoke about the history of the restoration.

Restoration of a baptismal angel in Evensen's church

Axel Kronenberg discovered the torso, which was in very bad condition, at a restorer in Hanover and initiated the necessary steps for restoration. It is thanks to his perseverance that the necessary financial resources for the complex project were raised and that the Hildesheim restorer and sculptor Johanna Fuchs was commissioned with the restoration. The restoration was completed in November 2013 and the baroque angel was attached to an artfully forged frame. On April 6, 2014, the baptismal angel was inaugurated as part of a community celebration.

Arrange the historical archive of the Lamspringe municipality

Axel Kronenberg organized the historical archive in years of painstaking work, only supported by a one-euro force .

Restoration of three angels in the Lamspring monastery church

Axel Kronenberg discovered the heavily damaged and soiled angels on the gallery of the baroque organ of the monastery church. He informed the restorer of the monastery chamber, who arranged the restoration of the figures. The extensive work was carried out in 2016 by Dieter Paule from Bad Salzdetfurth (see article in the Alfelder Zeitung, October 8, 2016, p. 14).
