For the season 1967/68 Ceyhan left the club, so Tohumcu rose to the undisputed goalkeeper and made it into the Turkish national team. His club failed to stay up at the end of the season, so that for the first time in the club's history they were relegated to the second highest Turkish league, the 2nd league.
Tohumcu remained loyal to his club after relegation and went into the 2nd league. Here you ended the season 1968/69 as champions and thus achieved direct promotion back to the 1st league. After the promotion, Ankaragücü defeated in the qualifier for the Başbakanlık Kupası (German: Prime Minister's Cup ) beat the other second division champions Samsunspor 2-0 and was given the opportunity to compete against Trabzon Sebatgücü for the Prime Minister's Cup. The match against Trabzon Sebatgücü was won 3-0 and won this trophy for the first time in the club's history. Once again promoted to the Süper Lig, Tohumcu made it back to the national team. In the 1971/72 season Tohumcu wrote club history with his team. So you finished the league in 5th place and achieved the second-best placement in the club's history. In addition, they reached the final of the Turkish Football Cup for the first time. In the Turkish Football Cup they reached the final again, but failed to defend their title against Galatasaray Istanbul . As time went on, Tohumcu played less and less in the starting lineup and gradually lost his place to Soysal.
In the summer of 1975 Tohumcu left Ankaragücü after fourteen years and moved to the second division Mersin İdman Yurdu . With this club he achieved the championship of the 2nd Lig at the end of the season and rose to the 1st Lig. With Mersin İY he played two more years in the top Turkish league.
