Azurém is a town and municipality in northern Portugal .

The University of Minho has one of its two branch offices here, the Campus de Azurém .

history

Finds indicate a possible prehistoric settlement from the Neolithic to the Castro culture . The current town may have been created during the settlement policy in the course of the Christian Reconquista .

The oldest documented mention of today's village comes from the year 959, as Villa de Asoredi . In the royal registers of 1220 and 1258, the community was listed under the name of Sancto Petro de Asorei .
