The BBC Atlantic class is a class of multi-purpose vessels with steerage and private cargo gear .

description

The ships were built from 2005 to 2011 at various shipyards in China for one-ship companies of Briese Schiffahrt in Leer . The ships are chartered to BBC Chartering , which uses them in worldwide voyages. The ships are sailing under the flag of Gibraltar and Antigua and Barbuda .

Technical data and equipment

The drive of the vessels carried by a MaK - diesel engine of the type M32C 8 with 3,840 kW power . The motor acts on a controllable pitch propeller via a reduction gear . The ships can thus reach a speed of around 13 knots .

For power generation are two MAN - Diesel generators of the type D 2876 LE 301 with 260 kW and a wave generator with 400 kW power. A MAN diesel generator of type D 2866 E was installed as an emergency and harbor generator.

The ships have a bow thruster with an output of 350 kW.

The deck superstructures are located in the rear of the ships. In front of the deck superstructure there are two holds closed with pontoon hatch covers . The hatch covers can be moved with a hatch cart. The holds are box-shaped. Cargo hold 1 is approximately 19.72 m long and 13.50 m wide, cargo hold 2 is approximately 57.80 m long and 13.50 m wide. Both holds are 9.05 m high. The volume of hold 1 is 2,373 m³, that of hold 2 is 6,956 m³. Cargo space 2 can be further subdivided with two bulkheads. Both holds have an intermediate deck.

The tank ceiling in the cargo holds can be loaded with 15 t / m², the intermediate deck in cargo hold 1 with 2.2 t / m² and the intermediate deck in cargo hold 2 with 2.5 t / m². The hatch covers can be loaded with 1.75 t / m².

The ships are equipped for the transport of containers . The container capacity is 336 TEU . Of these, 180 20-foot containers can be stowed in three layers in the two holds and 156 20-foot containers in two layers on deck. Alternatively, 75 40-foot containers and 30 20-foot containers can be stowed in the rooms and 78 40-foot containers on deck. With an even loading of 14 t containers, the capacity of the ships is 330 TEU.

For cargo handling two are NMF - cranes with 60 t capacity at 14 m display (or 35 tons at 24 m range) is available. The cranes can lift 120 t in tandem operation. The two cranes are located on the port side of the ships.

Ten cabins are available for the ship's crew , in which twelve people can be accommodated.

Others

The BBC Caribbean was attacked by pirates on February 5, 2017, about 120 nautical miles southwest of Bonny Island in the Gulf of Guinea off the coast of Nigeria . Eight members of the crew , seven Russians and one Ukrainian, were abducted. The seamen were released in early March.
