history

As part of the procurement of 1'B locomotives from the beginning of the 1870s, the locomotives of type IV c were also purchased in a total of eight delivery series. The machines were mainly used on the routes with steeper gradients in the Black Forest and the Odenwald. Some of the locomotives therefore received a Riggenbach counter-pressure brake .

Constructive features

The dimensions of the locomotives largely corresponded to type IV b . However, the double frame was dispensed with, which was replaced by a simple sheet metal frame. The locomotive had a very short wheelbase and was therefore able to move easily. Nevertheless, the barrel axis had a side play of 10 mm. The provision was made via inclined double surfaces. The grate area of the fire box was very small, as a result of which the steam generation was not satisfactory. Trials with finned tubes did not produce any improvement. The large steam dome sat on the rear boiler section .

The external wet steam engines had internal slide valves . The drive took place on the first coupling axle . The wheels were suspended with overhead leaf springs, which were connected by a balance lever between the coupling wheels.

The vehicles were equipped with type 2 T 8 or 2 T 6.67 tenders . Some locomotives were equipped with reversing cabs on the tender. So they could also be used on routes without a turntable .
