The Gensingen-Horrweiler station is located on the separation of Gau Algesheim-Bad Kreuznach railway and the Rheinhessen train Worms-Alzey-Bingen in the municipality Gensingen in the southern district of Mainz-Bingen . In operational terms, it is no longer a train station since a renovation, but just a stop . Both routes are separated at the junction "Gensingen-Horrweiler Abzw" about one kilometer to the north. In the station area, the line to Alzey runs parallel to the tracks in the direction of Bad Kreuznach and uses the eastern of the three remaining platform tracks. The facility is under monument protection as a monument zone at Gensingen-Horrweiler station .
location
The train station is located in Gensingen on the outermost edge of the town about one kilometer east of the center. The eponymous place Horrweiler is about two and a half kilometers east. The railway systems run approximately in a north-south direction. Both routes come from the north and branch off in the south of the station in the south-east (Alzey) and south-west (Bad Kreuznach).
history
The station was built in 1871 by the Hessian Ludwig Railway as part of the construction of the Rheinhessenbahn from Worms via Alzey to Bingen .
The connecting line from Gau-Algesheim to Bad Kreuznach , built as a strategic railway , was put into operation on May 15, 1902. A short section of the Rheinhessenbahn was used between Büdesheim - Dromersheim and Gensingen-Horrweiler, the continuation to Bad Kreuznach branches off in Gensingen-Horrweiler.
The once large train station with three platforms and five tracks has now been dismantled into a double stopping point and today only has three tracks on a house and an island platform. Since then, the two lines have been separated at the junction of the same name just under a kilometer north of the station ; the single-track Rheinhessenbahn in the direction of Alzey now only uses the eastern of the three tracks in Gensingen-Horrweiler station (track 4).
The modernization of the station facilities has been under discussion since the early 1990s. After long negotiations, the modernization is to begin as part of DB Station & Service AG's medium-term planning. For this purpose, provisional platforms were built in December 2014. These should enable easy access to the two railcars running through Gensingen-Horrweiler, type Alstom Coradia LINT 41/54 from DB Regio and Vlexx . In addition, it is intended to create construction freedom for the renovation of the platform. The platforms are to remain essentially unchanged. The platform roofs with their supports, paving, tiles and steps are to be renovated. The platforms are raised. It is expected to cost 5.5 million euros.
Investments
Reception building
The entrance building of the Gensingen-Horrweiler station is a three-part, classifying sandstone block type construction, which was built around 1870/80 when the station went into operation. Today it is privately owned and no longer serves rail operations. His address is Alexander-Bretz-Straße 3 .
Platforms
The Gensingen-Horrweiler train station once had a total of three platforms with five platform edges. The easternmost central platform (former tracks 5 and 6) is now overgrown with bushes and shrubs and is no longer accessible. The provisional platforms built in 2014 connect to the existing platforms in a northerly direction; access to the central platform continues through the platform tunnel between the old platforms. The platform with tracks 5/6, which is no longer in use, is also to be retained in the course of the station renovation.
Other plants
The platform tunnel connects the main platform with the central platform, the adjoining section to the second central platform is blocked. To the north of the reception building is the goods shed, which is also privately owned.
Monument protection
The station is a listed building . This includes the station building, the platforms including their roofs and the underpass , which was built around 1910.
