Coat of arms of Hattenheim

The Hattenheim station is the local train station Hattenheim in the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis on the right Rhine line .

history

For the Nassau Rheinbahn from Wiesbaden to Rüdesheim and later to Oberlahnstein , which opened on August 11, 1856, the now listed station building of the Hattenheim train station was built in the years 1884–1885 instead of an older building. The two-storey type building was probably designed according to plans by the architect Paul Rowald . The building had a waiting hall and various function rooms on the ground floor, while the station master's apartment was on the second floor.

The nearly symmetrical brick in the form of mixed Neugotik and -Renaissance consisting of a qualified Giebelrisalit with round arch portal and fighters , which is flanked by two columns. Two sandstone coats of arms form the end of the pillars : one with the Prussian eagle , the other with the coat of arms of Hattenheim, in which, however, the martyr's palm of the patron saint Vincent of Valencia is incorrectly depicted as a feather. The arched windows on the ground floor are provided with circular bars and keystones. A terracotta frieze with grapevine relief runs around the entire building. An extension from around 1900 closes the building off to the east. Another reception building of this type, probably also designed by Rowald, can be found in Geisenheim .

At the time of National Socialism , as part of the euthanasia crimes , trains arriving on platform 4 were “dispatched” with specially attached wagons with children. These were brought to the “ children's department ” of the nearby Eichberg state hospital and observed there for “scientific purposes” and most of them were murdered. Adult patients also came to Eichberg via the Hattenheim train station and were either killed there or taken to the Hadamar killing center .

The station has a house platform on track 1 for train traffic in the direction of Wiesbaden and Frankfurt as well as a central platform for tracks 2 and 3. Trains run from track 2 to Koblenz and Neuwied, while the disused track 3 was used for overtaking. The former freight track 4 was dismantled in 2015. The station is from since Oct. 3, 2010 operations center remotely Frankfurt.
