The Kufstein station is a German-Austrian border station in the center of the city of Kufstein .

location

The station forms the end of the route from Rosenheim , which continues as the Lower Inn Valley Railway to Innsbruck.

history

The old station building (1978)

In 1858 the Rosenheim – Kufstein – Innsbruck railway line was opened and in 1876 the Kufstein train station was built, which was completely replaced in 1980 by a modern structure for the time. The station is an Austrian-German border station between ÖBB and DB .

The facilities were completely rebuilt in the early 1980s, and the pedestrian walkway in the Zell district was relocated a few hundred meters to the south.

Around 2000, a park-and-ride facility was built on the west side and lifts to the platforms were installed. With a length of up to 740 meters, the platforms in Kufstein are among the longest in Austria.

Although the train station has never been a junction to date (although several projects have come a long way), it can still be indirectly referred to as a junction, since inner-Austrian trains run the route to just before Rosenheim train station , but then turn over the Rosenheim loop to Salzburg without making a stop in Germany (so-called corridor trains ).

In March 2017, work began on redesigning the forecourt with the construction of a new bus terminal. This work was completed in January 2018. The cost was 2.8 million euros.
