The station Oberaichen located at kilometer 18.9 of the Stuttgart-Rohr-Filderstadt railway and is a station in the network of S-Bahn Stuttgart . According to the railway building and operating regulations, however, it is not a train station , but a stopping point .

history

From the first opening to the closure

On October 1st, 1920, the Deutsche Reichsbahn put the railway line from Rohr to Echterdingen into operation. It branched off from the Gäubahn south of Rohr and reached Oberaichen after crossing the Dürrlewangwald . The breakpoint was behind the level crossing of the country road to Unteraichen (today's Raiffeisenstraße), at what was then route kilometer 19. It was equipped with a simple wooden shelter. Around 1927, the restaurant Zum Bahnhof opened on the opposite side.

After the other Filderdörfer were connected by tram and bus connections to Stuttgart , Degerloch and Esslingen , the new railway line proved to be unprofitable in the first two decades after its opening. On August 1, 1955, the last passenger train finally left for Neuhausen .

reactivation

When designing a new local transport concept for Stuttgart and the surrounding area in the 1960s, the transport scientist Professor Walther Lambert planned the partial reactivation of the railway line in order to create a S-Bahn connection to the airport . Implementation of his proposal began in 1984.

The route was partially relocated in the area of the Dürrlewangwald. The two-track expansion and electrification took place. There were delays in the completion of the Leinfelden – airport section. For this reason, the City Council asked Leinfelden-Echterdingen , the German Federal Railroad to leave the suburban trains run as soon as possible, at least until Oberaichen. The resulting higher operating costs were financed by the state of Baden-Württemberg .

On May 29, 1989, the first S-Bahn (S-Bahn) line S2 ran on the temporarily reopened section to Oberaichen. A newly established bus line connected the other parts of the city with the stop. Almost four years later, on April 18, 1993, as planned, the Stuttgart Airport train station took over as the terminus.

Rail operations

The stop is served by lines S2 and S3 of the Stuttgart S-Bahn. Track 1 is used for trains in the direction of Rohr, track 2 for those in the direction of the airport / exhibition center.

The station Oberaichen corresponds, according to the Deutsche Bahn AG of Bahnhof Category fifth
