The Schee train station is a former train station and is now a residential area in Sprockhövel - Gennebreck .

History of the station

The station is located on the Wuppertal – Wichlinghausen – Hattingen railway line, which was opened by the Prussian State Railways in 1884 and this section was largely closed in 1979, directly at the north portal of the Scheetunnel . A branch line also ran from the station to Silschede .

The station building dates from 1886, is now privately owned and is a listed building . Due to its original condition, filming (historical station scenes) for a ZDF television film took place there in October 1976 .

Despite its peripheral location, the train station was at times one of the busiest train stations in Prussia due to the coal transports. On the Wuppertal – Wichlinghausen – Hattingen railway line, passenger train traffic ended on November 30, 1979, freight traffic in 1984. Passenger traffic on the Schee – Silschede line ended in 1960, goods traffic only in 1989. This last led from Wuppertal – Oberbarmen via Wichlinghausen and Schee towards Hiddinghausen .

History of the residential area

In the 19th and 20th centuries, the station was located in the rural community of Gennebreck of the Haßlinghausen district in the Hagen district (from 1897 Schwelm district , from 1929 Ennepe-Ruhr district ) a bit away from the eponymous town of Schee .

The municipality encyclopedia for the province of Westphalia in 1885 gives a number of 19 residents for the town of Bahnhof Schee who lived in two houses. In 1895 the place had three houses with 23 inhabitants, in 1905 the place had five houses and 74 inhabitants.

On January 1, 1970, the Haßlinghausen office was dissolved and the rural community of Gennebreck with the Schee station was incorporated into the town of Sprockhövel.
